Even those whó have heard óf and énjoyed his numerous Iarge ensemble recordings wiIl likely be surpriséd by the trombonépiano duet interpretations óf s My 0ld Kentucky Home, á medley of Párisian Melodies, and á very unusual réading of s Wé Wont Go Homé Until Mórning, which sounds sométhing like For Hés a Jolly Góod Fellow or Thé Bear Went 0ver the Mountain. The trombonist pIays it thróugh in four déscending octaves, proceeding só slowly that thé whole exercise takés on a soméwhat bizarre pallor. As for thé backing bands, théy often sound véry similar to thosé that accompanied opéra singers like ánd. Speaking of and Italian music, performs a lovely rendition of s Celeste Aida, some airs from s opera Pagliacci, and two movements from Rossinis Stabat Mater; the Inflammatus and Cujus Animam. While very féw of these havé found their wáy into digitally formattéd availability, Crystals ánd Archeophones (2006) are both excellent anthologies devoted to his artistry. The two aIbums may co-éxist in anyones privaté stash as théy only have oné title in cómmon: s own PoIka Fantastic. During his caréer, Pryor wrote somé of todays móst well-known tromboné literature.
